OUR STORY
Since 1997, BBR has grown into a benchmark of modern railway infrastructure through an innovative Public–Private Partnership. Our 350km railway link between Beitbridge and Bulawayo stands as a testament to regional collaboration, economic empowerment, and smart infrastructure financing. From our inception to today, we’ve focused on safe, efficient, and sustainable freight transport.
1997
Beitbridge Bulawayo Railway (Pvt.) Ltd. is incorporated in Zimbabwe as a full-fledged private railway company under NLPI.
1998
Construction of the railway line begins, funded through a $85 million investment from foreign shareholders and South Africa’s Rand Merchant Bank.
1999
BBR becomes operational in July and is officially commissioned on 1st September by the President of Zimbabwe.
2000
BBR begins regular operations over its 350km link between Beitbridge and Bulawayo on the North-South Corridor.
2005
BBR is recognised as a model Public-Private Partnership (PPP) in the SADC region under the Build–Operate–Transfer (BOT) framework.
2008
In 2008 BBR received the Best Concessionaire Award by Africa rail Awards, the first awards ever to honour the African Railway industry designed to recognize some of the exceptional performers in the industry and celebrate the continued growth and success of the railway industry.
2015
The company invests in technology upgrades to improve safety, reliability, and fuel efficiency across operations.
2020
BBR reaffirms its commitment to innovation, sustainability, and regional economic integration through corridor-based logistics solutions.
